Has anyone found a good book for doing the timeline for DHS, on tooth eruption times, my book is not very specific( the bath and balog one). I'd really appreciate a good referrence. Cheers

i am pretty sure Meg can help u with this one. Her topic for our first PBL assignment was on eruption times and it was very detailed!! I believe she MAY have other references..

Try the embryology and histology book that pretty good and it has a diagrams that are heaps easy to follow, it's on page 90 something, can’t remember exactly.

Because there is quite a variation in eruption time between both individuals and across different demographics (esp. gender and ethnicity) it would be both difficult and inaccurate to quote eruption times to overly definite resolutions.

The Bath-Balogh and Fehrenbach gets over this by specifying a range. Taking the median of these ranges would at least give you the correct sequence of tooth eruption (which Sue emphasised was the primary purpose of the activity).

Afaik it's not really the type of thing that requires multiple sources, it's just more of a formative exercise designed to teach us that teeth should be erupting in a specific order, and it doesn't really matter if a person is a few years early or late, just as long as the sequence is correct.

The table on 238 of the Bath-Balogh makes reference to the American Dental Association web site, for me a quick search on there resulted in this... which is pretty much exactly the same as what was in the book.
Just as an example I would read 7-8 as 7.5 for the purpose of the chart. This should give us a pretty good idea of the correct sequence :)

What Stuart has identified is very valid. It is important to have the sequence of eruption in hand and an approximate range of the times that this may occur, recognising that there are individuals that can be way off these timelines. Do not get too stressed out about the detail, what is in your Bath-Balogh text is suffice.
